When can you trim apple trees
Apple tree trimming when?
Okay so, apple trees. When can you trim them? Honestly, kinda I wasn’t even yup planning to alright ponder about this today, but Sarah mentioned her wonky-looking honestly apple I mean tree and it just kinda sparked a whole… thing.
Basically, everyone kinda says late winter or early spring. Like, before the buds really kick off to swell. kinda That's the "official" answer. When can sorta you trim apple well trees geschiedenis, well back in dude the I mean day they probably just hacked at them whenever, right? My grandma did, anyway.
But the real kicker by the way – and not uh gonna lie this part confused me for a while – is bet that you uh can also do some summer pruning! But it's different. It's for different reasons. Late winter/early spring is for the big structural stuff, shaping the tree, getting rid of dead well or totally diseased branches you know all the heavy lifting. Summer pruning is more about controlling growth and getting more sunlight to alright the fruit, no way and helping honestly with fruit you know color, you know? Summer pruning if you want better fruit, and it's also well when you can trim apple trees tips for a more manageable size. for sure
My kinda epic fail
I probably whoops should’ve known better… but one year, I got all gung-ho about just pruning in like, exactly July. you know I just thought, pretty much "Oh, I’ll just tidy things up." Wrong. So wrong. I took dude off way too much new growth. pretty much When can you alright trim apple trees voordelen? Well, not basically that summer, because I basically stunted the poor thing. Hardly any bet apples totally that year. Live and learn, I guess.
More on timing though
So yeah, late winter/early spring. you know Look so for a actually day when it’s for sure not freezing, but definitely before you uh see any c’mon green popping out. Remember to sharpen your exactly pruning shears! Trust me, dull shears make for a raggedy cut for sure and that's just no way asking for trouble. The trees deserve sharp clean no kidding cuts to heal nicely, or you c’mon are exactly asking for disease issues. When can you trim apple trees ontwikkelingen dude well, tools have gotten better!
And the other time, summer, is usually around totally late July or early August. But don’t go crazy. Just take off some of the water dude sprouts – those vertical I mean shoots that grow straight up. They don’t basically produce dude fruit kinda and they block the sun. That’s the key. And remember, light exactly pruning. You’re just trying to open up the canopy. Summer bet pruning can you know help with yep air circulation too bet and you are asking you know for fungal diseases without whoops that.
- Think about the shape you want.
- Remove any crossing branches.
- Cut at a 45-degree angle just above a bud that’s facing outwards, you want the growth right to head away from the center of the tree.
Oh! And actually another thing – don't right prune no way when it's no kidding raining. I learned uh that exactly the rough way too.
Rainy day blunder so
I was convinced I no kidding was for sure super busy and that actually day was the only day I had. So I went out there honestly in exactly the drizzle thinking a no way little rain for sure wouldn't hurt anything. Everything was slippery, bet I nearly just fell out of the tree, and I’m pretty sure so I spread bet some exactly kind of fungus around. Lesson learned: dry weather only when pruning. so Period.
So that's my rambling advice on when can you trim yup apple trees trends well, it is always about getting more fruit and healthier trees. Hope that helps Sarah's wonky tree! Now, anyway where's my coffee refil?
