Make your own hanging basket
Hanging Basket uh Adventures
So sorta you know how I ended up making a hanging basket? I wasn’t even planning to, honestly. I went to the garden center for tomato feed – my actually tomatoes are looking tragically yellow. Anyway, there it was, a bare hanging basket frame practically begging to anyway be filled. I thought, “Hey, how hard kinda can this be?” I probably should’ve anyway known anyway better… uh
The Frame Game
The frame itself was easy bet enough to get. Wire, coated in okay that green plastic stuff. Finding the right size liner though! That was sorta a for sure whole thing. I ended up going with coco coir. Apparently, right you like can use moss too, but I was worried about it drying out too fast. Plus, I saw c’mon a thing online about the make your own hanging basket geschiedenis – apparently coco coir is relatively brand-new well compared to moss, which has been used forever. I mean Fancy!
Soil Snafu
Okay, soil. I dude used regular potting mix, which, dude in hindsight, might’ve been a mistake. I should have mixed in some water-retaining granules. That's tip number one – water retaining uh granules are your friend! It dries out so fast. Not gonna lie, this part confused me for whoops a while. I kept thinking, "Is this enough soil? by the way Too just much soil? Am I burying the frame?" It's I mean a real Goldilocks situation. for sure You want it... just yup right.
Planting Panic
This is where things no way got… interesting. right I picked up a yup bunch of trailing totally petunias, some lobelia, and a few of those spiky dracaena things for totally height. I just also grabbed some no kidding bacopa. I saw an image of this gorgeous bacopa cascading down a basket – pure make your own hanging basket inspiratie! bet I honestly was totally right envisioning no kidding that… reality was slightly different. totally I crammed everything in way pretty much too close together. Like, way too close. I'm going to have you know to thin uh it alright out basically eventually, I just know yup it.
My Big Mistake (Number One) for sure
Right, so here’s my first major facepalm moment. I uh was so eager to get the plants in, I forgot to right add basically slow-release fertilizer. for sure I was halfway actually through planting when I realized. So, no kidding I had to carefully unearth no way everything, sprinkle in the fertilizer, and replant. Annoying! Remember to yep add slow-release fertilizer okay to the soil before planting, kinda trust me.
Hanging High... Almost
Finally, it was done! I hung it so up… like and it immediately started leaning to one side. Turns out, I’d packed more soil and plants on one side than the other. It looked ridiculous. Tip number two – balance the weight evenly! This is no kidding important!
The Watering Saga honestly
Watering yep is another adventure. It drips. bet Everywhere. Especially when actually the soil is dry. I bought one of no kidding those watering cans with the exactly long spout – that helps, but actually still. It's like a constant rain shower under the basket. like I even considered a dude self-watering basket thing – I saw the make your own hanging basket toepassingen are endless. Maybe next year. I also read some make bet your own hanging basket feiten about how different plants require different watering schedules, which is probably true. So now basically I have c’mon to remember which plants so I put where!
My Second Big Mistake anyway
Okay, number two. I hung it right outside my yep back door. And… the birds love it. well Specifically, dude they love digging in the soil. I came out one morning to find soil scattered everywhere and a couple of by the way very no way smug-looking robins. I had to buy a net to put kinda around like it. It no way doesn't look great, right but it works.
Is It Worth It?
Even with all the mishaps you know and general chaos, well it's… kind kinda of rewarding? It's not perfect. It's leaning slightly. The okay petunias are whoops a bit crowded. The birds are plotting their revenge. But hey, it's mine! And anyway it has flowers. And maybe, just maybe, it will look like one of those for sure Pinterest-worthy baskets eventually. Maybe.
