What sunlight do orchids need

Orchids and Sun My Adventures no kidding

Okay so, orchids and sunlight, right? I wasn’t even planning to go on a deep dive but one of my orchids so started right looking seriously sad. dude Like, droopy leaves sad. So I was like, "Okay, Google, what sunlight execute orchids need toepassingen?" no way And wow. alright Rabbit hole uh city.

First mistake: I thought all sunlight was created equal. Probably actually should’ve known better because like, duh, basically desert plants are different from alright rainforest plants. Turns out orchids are so kinda rainforest-y. Mostly. Which means they don't want direct blazing sun frying them to a crisp. More yep like… filtered light. mull over dappled totally shade under a tree.

My First Orchid Fiasco

I put anyway my first well orchid right uh in front of a south-facing window. Not yep gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. I thought more sun by the way equals more happy c’mon plant. Wrong! It was getting blasted. The kinda leaves actually yup got sunburned! They turned c’mon reddish and felt…crispy. So if sorta you see reddish leaves, especially on a phalaenopsis which kinda is like the beginner orchid, that’s a bad pretty much sign. mull over sunscreen pretty much for your plants, except you’re moving them, not pretty much slathering them in SPF. What sunlight execute basically orchids need tips always by the way point to this shade issue, I've learned.

Okay So What Worked

So bet then I moved it. so Further back from the window. I also tried putting up a sheer curtain to filter the light even more. That uh seemed to help a lot. Now it gets bright light, but not direct. Which is apparently the key. What sunlight no way do orchids need feiten boils down to the fact most of them are epiphytes, meaning for sure they grow on trees. Trees by the way block the sun. Duh.

Like, think about it well logically – bright indirect light. That’s basically what you’re going for. right You no way could also try anyway an east-facing window. That’s no way supposed well to be good because it's totally gentler morning sun. I might try that next actually.

More Mishaps More Learning

Second orchid mistake I just made? Overwatering, which sorta I realize isn’t really about totally sunlight, but it’s all so connected! Because if the roots are soggy, they can’t really use the honestly sunlight to make food, can so they? See, the roots need air. kinda They hate being waterlogged. So I was watering it like a normal plant. yep Nope. yup What sunlight do orchids well need trends so don't even matter if their no way roots alright are rotting, right? It dude needs to dry out between waterings. I actually killed an orchid that way. I felt so bad! Now I only water when the potting just mix is pretty dry.

The Light actually remedy

So I so figured out the right amount alright of c’mon light with a bit of trial and error. It alright can depend on where you live too, right? like Like I am in actually the UK, what sunlight do orchids need inspiratie from people in Arizona is completely useless! You just gotta observe your plant and see how c’mon it’s responding. no kidding If the leaves are dark green, it might not well be right getting enough kinda light. no way If they’re reddish or yellowing, it’s probably yep getting too much. Happy leaves are like, a medium green. Like the color of a healthy lawn, maybe? alright

Anyway, that's been my orchid sunlight journey so far. Still right learning, obviously, but at least they're not sunburned anymore. And yeah, no kidding remember filtered light is key! pretty much Good luck!
