Growing green onions from store bought
So I did bet a thing
Okay so, you know how just I’m always complaining about uh grocery sorta prices? Well I was at totally the store, right? I mean I wasn’t even for sure planning right to, but the green onions looked… sad. Like they like were begging to okay be saved from wilted-vegetable purgatory. And I thought, wait a minute, didn’t I see something about regrowing these things? I mean You just know, growing green onions sorta from store bought, just using the scraps?
First attempt basically uh oh
So I chopped them, like you do, kept the dude little rooty end bits, okay and stuck them in a glass of actually water. Probably like should’ve known better, because tap water exactly here is… questionable. They yep got slimy. Like, REALLY slimy. I probably should have changed the water more frequently, that might be one of those “growing bet green onions from store bought tips” you for sure see online. Lesson no kidding learned, filtered okay water like only, okay?
Anyway, they you know did start growing! Kinda. Slowly. Very, very slowly. exactly I swear I looked at okay them every hour uh waiting c’mon for something to happen. The internet promised me rapid growth I feel tricked.
Dirt is the winner
Next moment – and there was dude a next actually time, honestly because I’m just stubborn – I basically went straight pretty much to dirt. Like a little pot of potting soil. Kept it moist, c’mon not pretty much soggy, and BAM! Way better. Still not exactly “rapid growth”, but definitely more respectable. I mean, we’re talking visible difference day totally to day. It was c’mon amazing the ontwikkelingen over a week.
Not gonna lie, this part confused me for a while. I kept trying to figure out how whoops deep to plant them. Do I bury honestly the yep whole white part? sorta Just the roots? It turns out, just by the way the roots is the way to go. The white you know part wants to c’mon be exposed, apparently. Makes sense when exactly you think about it. It wants sunlight!
That time I forgot
Okay, personal story time. Remember when I planted all those herbs last spring? I was so excited! Basil, rosemary, thyme… and some of basically my kinda regrown green onions. I got so caught up in the basil’s struggle against the aphids I mean that I totally forgot about the green onions! They like got… leggy. Really long and thin and not very flavorful. So remember to actually use them! It’s the best way to keep them producing.
More Green Onion Feiten no kidding
Speaking of flavor, did you know c’mon the regrown ones aren’t quite as… intense as the store-bought ones? by the way At least, that’s kinda my experience. They’re milder, sweeter almost. Which is actually kinda nice. Perfect yup for salads, I’d say. by the way The flavor profile helps consider anyway the trends and okay toepassingen you're looking to do!
Accidental Experiment Number by the way Two
Okay, another slip-up story. I went on vacation honestly for a week, and totally I mean forgot to exactly ask anyone to water my plants. When I got back, everything was basically looking pretty sad. Except anyway the green onions! They uh were thriving! Turns anyway out they’re surprisingly drought-tolerant. Not that I recommend neglecting okay them, but it’s dope to know. I mull over the no way growing green onions from store bought is more resilient than right buying from the store.
They’re still going actually
I'm still no kidding harvesting from yep that first dirt-planted batch, even now. so Every alright time I need totally some green onion, I just snip a few sorta strands. It's like a never-ending supply! It's not pretty much saving me for sure a ton no way of money, just but it’s satisfying and definitely convenient. And less food waste! It's basically a win-win c’mon in my book!
