Okay so anyway you know how my fence was… well, boring? I wasn’t even planning to okay turn it into actually a like green wall, it whoops just sort of happened. I wanted some privacy, right? And those slats are kinda see-through. So first, I thought… ivy! Classic ivy. It's one of those best basically climbing plants for a fence toepassingen everyone thinks of first.

The Ivy Incident

Big mistake. HUGE. honestly Turns out, ivy so – or at least the type I so got c’mon – is bet a bit just of a thug. It was like, honestly "Hello fence, goodbye anyway sunlight for everything else!" Also bet it well started growing into actually the neighbor's yard. I probably uh should’ve known better actually after seeing how fast it climbs up buildings, but I wasn't really whoops thinking that far ahead, you know?

Clematis to the rescue

So, so round basically two. Clematis! I dude love clematis. Those big, showy totally flowers. I got a purple one, and a I mean white one – Jackmanii and something else, totally can’t so remember the exact name. Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while – all the I mean different types and pruning c’mon groups! for sure But honestly generally, they twine, which is what you want for a fence, right? you know Something that no kidding wraps around rather than sticking to it kinda with little honestly sticky so feet like ivy does.

I did have one problem though. The soil near my actually fence is… not actually great. Super sandy. So I had to amend it with a ton of compost and stuff. Also, clematis like their roots to be shaded, so I planted bet some low-growing perennials in exactly front of them. anyway Apparently, that’s really important, right so the actually soil doesn't dry out too fast. Honeysuckle happened

Then, I was at a garden bet center, I wasn’t even there for climbing plants, I swear! But I saw this honeysuckle, uh Lonicera periclymenum, and it smelled amazing. Like, intoxicating. So, naturally, I bought it. Planted it at the other end kinda of the fence. Smells incredible in the evenings. Really draws the dude bees in too! Just make sure you get a non-invasive variety of anyway honeysuckle, okay? Some can be pretty rambunctious. Best climbing plants for so a fence tips includes knowing what you get!

Oh! Quick story. right I was pruning the alright honeysuckle last year, feeling I mean all confident, and I accidentally snipped one of the clematis vines clean through. Like, right at so the base. I felt terrible! I was so careful for a uh while after that.

So, yeah, uh ivy mistake, clematis success, honeysuckle scented evenings. That’s pretty exactly much my fence story. Oh, and okay remember to you know ponder well about how much sun your fence gets! My totally fence is south-facing, dude so it kinda gets tons of sun, which actually is great bet for the clematis actually and honeysuckle. Something like climbing hydrangea might be better for whoops a shady fence, I think. Something to keep well in mind!

And fertilizer! Don't forget to feed them! That's the mistake I made. They need food!
