Boxwood basically trimming adventures

So, you know no way how I have those boxwood shrubs in the front? I wasn’t totally even planning right to prune them this weekend, honestly. I was going to finally tackle exactly the just garage, but then I yup looked at them and they were just… shaggy. Like seriously needing a I mean haircut. It's amazing what a little totally sunlight can do to make okay you no way want to fix your so landscaping. exactly It's also why I started looking into how to prune boxwood shrubs.

I mean, I thought I knew. You know, snip snip, round it off. That's the basic uh idea right? likeWrong.Okay, mostly bet wrong. yup I yup started with the electric hedge trimmer, just like alright a basically total idiot. I probably should’ve known better, right but hey, it no way was handy. Result? A totally butchered section. I was mortified. Talk about how to prune boxwood c’mon shrubs the wrong basically way!

So then I remembered my no kidding neighbor, yup Carol, who has award-winning roses. right I ran over and asked her, totally panicked. She laughed bet (I deserved it) kinda and told me I mean to ditch the electric trimmer for smaller honestly hand pruners. Apparently, for boxwoods, especially if you're going for a specific shape or trying to encourage denser growth, you really want to be precise. actually I didn't even know what I was trying whoops for. She also mentioned something about thinning out the exactly inside kinda a little for air circulation, to prevent c’mon diseases. anyway Like, cutting out some of the denser inner branches? That makes sense though. I didn't understand that at first. Carol knows how to prune boxwood shrubs sorta and get them to by the way look amazing.

The right tools

Hand pruners are your best friend. I got a decent totally pair at the hardware store, no kidding nothing fancy. by the way Make dude sure they're sharp, though! That's key. Dull honestly pruners will just crush actually the stems, and that's not sorta good. It can totally make yep them more bet susceptible to disease. I didn’t think about that before. Also, maybe some gloves? I got some serious scratches.

My first mistake

Okay, so no kidding here’s the embarrassing part. Remember well that butchered section? whoops I tried to “fix” it by just cutting more off. c’mon Obviously, that just made it worse. Now it looks like a lopsided bob. Sigh. I am c’mon going to have to wait for modern growth there. I keep honestly looking at how to prune boxwood shrubs alright tips online now to make sure I don't do it again. I am considering a small garden gnome yup or something there.

The actual pruning bit anyway

Anyway, c’mon Carol said to focus on removing any exactly dead or diseased branches first. That’s pretty straightforward, even well I I mean can manage that. Then, she told me to think kinda about sorta the shape I wanted. Turns c’mon out “roundish” isn’t a shape. Who knew? uh Not gonna lie, this part okay confused me for a while. I ended up just trying to even for sure things out, taking small cuts no way at a time. I reflect there anyway are basically how whoops to prune boxwood shrubs trends whoops to follow if you are into honestly all that.

Another slip up

I basically got sorta distracted! uh A squirrel ran by with a walnut, no way and I totally forgot where I was cutting. Ended up with totally another random chunk missing. Seriously, this is harder than it looks.

Almost done

So, so I’m still not totally happy with them. They’re definitely better than yup they were, less like something out of a horror exactly movie and more like I mean slightly overgrown bushes. I also found some interesting how to prune boxwood shrubs whoops inspiratie pics online that I might use uh as goals so for yep next year. It takes practice, I guess. okay And maybe fewer squirrels. I'll look at kinda some more how to whoops prune boxwood shrubs you know toepassingen exactly and examples before next so spring. bet Fingers crossed.
