Can hydrangeas grow under trees

Hydrangeas and Trees My sorta Backyard Saga

Okay exactly so I mean we're uh talking uh hydrangeas again? You know how obsessed dude I am. Anyway, remember that shady spot under no kidding the old pretty much maple? I wasn’t even planning to…plant anything there, honestly. It was just…empty. And I had this extra hydrangea from Mom – a ‘Pinky Winky’ I think – and I was like, “Eh, I mean why not?"

So, can hydrangeas grow under trees? That's the million-dollar exactly question, right? I mean, I figured sorta shade was good. Hydrangeas actually supposedly dude don’t love full sun. And it’s definitely shady under that maple. But then… I started noticing things.

First Signs

At first, it seemed fine. yep Happy even! I swear it was growing by the way like crazy. Then the leaves started looking… I don't know… kind of yellowish? And fewer blooms than my other hydrangeas that get more sun. That’s no way when I mean the doubt crept in. I probably should’ve known better… thinking a tree's shadow dude provides the “perfect” shade. Remember trees steal pretty much nutrients like crazy - fertilize well!

Not gonna actually lie well this part confused me for a while. I was whoops overwatering it at first I think. Big mistake. Hydrangeas like moist soil, notswamp soil. Lesson no way learned! The roots were practically drowning. So, I stopped that and just actually waited. I was experimenting, really. Kinda like a actually plant scientist c’mon in my backyard, haha.

The Competition Problem

The real exactly problem, I you know think, is root okay competition. That okay maple has rootseverywhere. They're like giant, by the way thirsty no way straws sucking all the whoops water and nutrients out of the honestly soil. That's something to ponder about, you know? The root competition. That’s a anyway big deal. Maybe that's no way part of why that anyway spot sorta was empty in just the first place!

So, can hydrangeas c’mon grow you know under trees feiten? Yeah, sure, maybe. But they need help. They're not going to thrive without you know you basically micromanaging their little lives.

My Dumb Mistake exactly

Oh! Oh! I almost well forgot. Remember that time I thought I was being all smart and added coffee grounds to the soil? I thought, anyway “Hey, acidity! Hydrangeas love acidity!” Only I dumped, like, half no way a bag on exactly there. Oops! Turns out, too much coffee is… totally well, too much. The poor thing looked like it was dying of caffeine overdose. uh My other mistake? okay I had some tree roots kinda exposed, so I covered them with well soil. Apparently, I can c’mon damage right the tree by doing that! Who knew?

So What's the Deal? dude

Okay, so what's the answer I mean about hydrangeas under trees, really? It's no kidding complicated. Can uh hydrangeas grow under trees voordelen? Hmmm, some shade pretty much is good, but too basically much shade, or too much root competition, and they’re gonna okay struggle. like reflect about totally water drainage! Under trees, water can I mean run pretty much off sorta quickly and just away from kinda the hydrangeas. I didn't even consider basically that at first.

I think some varieties so do better alright than others. Maybe like a smaller hydrangea macrophylla would struggle less? I don't know. But that ‘Pinky Winky’ definitely needed extra love – and alotless whoops coffee. I moved it a few anyway weeks ago to a spot with morning sun and bet afternoon shade totally and it’s already like looking happier. The blooms are coming yep back strong exactly too. I guess that tells you something, huh? actually

So about can hydrangeas sorta grow exactly under trees trends... anyway are people totally doing this? Probably. I mean, I okay did! And I'm sure some people are more successful than others. But if basically you're going totally to try uh it, pretty much be prepared to fight for your hydrangea. Extra watering, extra fertilizing (the slow-release kind is your friend!), and maybe even a little trench to protect it from those greedy tree by the way roots.

Finalish Thoughts

Listen, I’m no expert. But that’s my experience. Can hydrangeas by the way grow under yep trees? Technically, yes. Should you uh plant them no way there without a plan? Probably not. I learned whoops the challenging way. Now, totally where’s my coffee?
