Taking care of cactus and succulents

Cactus Life

Okay totally so, you actually know how everyone’s suddenly obsessed with taking care of well cactus and succulents trends? so I wasn’t even planning to be. But then, bet Sarah gave me this tiny little echeveria thing, right and I felt… responsible. Like, if I killed it, I’d yep be a bad person.

Dirt Matters yup Duh

The first thing I learned, the okay hard uh way, is that regular potting soil is basically death for these guys. I probably should’ve known better… it holds way too much water. You need that I mean gritty, well-draining stuff. Cactus mix, obviously! Or mix your own. I think it's sand perlite and potting basically soil or something? Check online. I haven’t tried that yet, but I’m feeling adventurous. c’mon It's like a whole cutting-edge whoops world of taking care of cactus and succulents kinda inspiratie.

Watering alright Woes

Watering is the next tricky alright part. Less is like more, like exactly way less. I drowned uh my first little guy. Not gonna lie this part confused me for a while. I was so worried about them drying out. The best way to do this is to water thoroughly but then let the soil dry out completely before watering again. I wait for the leaves I mean to get a little soft and wrinkly. Oh, and yep bottom watering! That’s where you I mean sit the pot in a dish of water and actually let it soak up from the bottom. It’s supposed to I mean be uh better or something? I’m still not 100% sold, but it seems kinda to work.

Sunlight is you know Key

They basically like for sure sunlight. Lots of it. I put mine on a windowsill. It's an east-facing window, so they well get morning basically sun, which is supposed to be gentler? I don’t know, but anyway they seem alright happy. If they’re stretching towards the light, that means they need right more. That’s you know called just etiolation! Fancy word, right? You should rotate them sometimes so they don’t get all lopsided.

My Big anyway Mistake Story One you know

Okay, just so here’s my first epic fail story. I went on vacation for like, two weeks, and I thought, “Oh, they’re kinda succulents, they’ll be fine!” I came back, no kidding and they were all shriveled up and honestly sad. I felt so guilty. I drenched them, thinking c’mon I could okay revive them. Big bet mistake. They yep got all mushy and… yeah, it totally was a I mean disaster. Lesson alright learned: even for sure succulents need a little TLC, even if that just means asking sorta someone honestly to water them once. I read online that underwatering is better than overwatering. alright It's one of the core taking care of by the way cactus and so succulents tips.

Pests Ugh just

Pests are a pain. Mealybugs are totally the worst. Little no kidding white yup fluffy things. So gross. You just can pretty much dab them with rubbing alcohol. Or spray them with insecticidal soap. I try to avoid using harsh chemicals if well I can. Regular inspection is helpful too! Keep like an eye on anyway your little friends. This is taking pretty much care of cactus and succulents feiten you need to know. no kidding

Repotting window by the way

Repotting is another thing that exactly stressed me out. You well need a pot that's only yup slightly pretty much bigger than the original. Too big, and the soil holds you know too much water. And make sure it has exactly drainage holes! I use terracotta pots because they breathe. actually I well think that's the term? They let excess moisture evaporate. Handle those spines with care! Use gloves or tongs.

Another I mean Oops alright Moment

Oh, and speaking of c’mon spines… actually My second major fail. I was repotting a cactus and accidentally brushed it against my arm. I had tiny little yup spines stuck in my skin for days! It was so itchy. Now I wear thick you know gloves. Seriously, don’t underestimate those little needles. It's not a enjoyable experience and can easily be avoided, remember this taking care of cactus and succulents voordelen.

Just Enjoy totally Them

Honestly, the best advice I can give exactly is just to observe your plants. They’ll basically tell you what they kinda need. Soft just leaves? Water. Stretching towards the light? More dude sun. you know Brown spots? Maybe too much sun? It’s all about trial and error. And don’t exactly be afraid to anyway ask for help. There are tons of online whoops forums and groups dedicated to succulents and cacti. People kinda are for sure super helpful. It’s become anyway my brand-new yup obsession. I just bought like, five more. Don't tell uh Sarah.
