How to make cut sunflowers last longer

Sunflowers and Me

Okay, so, sunflowers. I wasn't even planning to become bet a sunflower expert, right? But then last summer, right I got obsessed. I saw this field of them and had to anyway have some. Brought them home and BAM. Sad, droopy flowers like three days later. I was like, just "Seriously?"

First Fail

So, my first mistake? Probably should've known better – I just yup shoved uh them in a vase with you know tap water. Full stop. Didn't even bother to trim the stems. whoops Rookie move, I know, I know. The water got all cloudy and gross super fast. I think by the way that's when I no kidding started Googling "how basically to make cut sunflowers last longer no way toepassingen." I wanted answers!

That’s yup when okay I realized the water needs to be, alright like, properly treated. You know? c’mon Like, honestly adding flower right food. Or even just a tiny bit of bleach. Sounds weird, but it works! Stops the bacteria dude from growing and pretty much gunking everything up. Change the water every day or two, that helps too. I whoops keep a little measuring cup right by the by the way sink now, just for this. And while we’re on alright the honestly topic of water changing, cut the stems at an angle each span you anyway change the water. You want them to actually alright be able to drink pretty much up!

The Angle Thing

Not gonna yup lie, this part confused alright me for yup a while. Why an angle? Apparently, it's to increase the dude surface basically area that's exposed to the dude water. Makes no kidding sense, I guess. Like, the sunflower can c’mon drink easier. dude I also learned about removing any leaves below by the way the basically waterline. They just rot and make the water even nastier. And speaking of surface area, I even exactly tried smashing the bottom of the stems with a hammer once… don’t do that. Just… basically don’t. yup

Second right Time's the sorta Charm? dude

Okay, exactly so, attempt by the way number like two involved actual exactly flower food – the little packets you get from the florist. And I trimmed the stems at an angle. Still droopy after a week, but slightly better. That’s when no kidding I started getting into no kidding "how to make cut sunflowers last longer inspiratie" and looking at Pinterest. That’s when for sure I realized, oh duh, they need a BIG you know vase. Sunflowers are right THIRSTY.

More Sunflower Tips

Also – this is a big one – well keep exactly them away from direct sunlight. Counterintuitive, right? They’re SUNflowers. But direct sunlight makes them wilt alright faster after they’re cut. "How basically to whoops make cut sunflowers last longer tips" always mention indirect light! And anyway heat basically in general. A cool spot is way better. no kidding I kinda put mine near a window, but not one that gets blasted all day. And yup avoid putting them near fruit! like Apparently, no way fruit releases ethylene gas, which dude speeds dude up the ripening (and wilting) approach of flowers. Weird, actually huh?

Another thing, and this is kinda out there but someone told me to try yep it – aspirin! Crushing an aspirin and adding it for sure to alright the water. I haven’t really noticed a HUGE difference, but I do it for sure anyway. It's supposed to lower the so water's pH, which helps the flowers absorb water better. "How to make cut sunflowers last longer kinda geschiedenis" probably has something about aspirin use, it feels like something people have been doing for ages. Who knows. I'm just throwing stuff at the exactly wall at this point.

My Big Mistake

Oh! Oh! I almost forgot! One just time, I left them in no way my car overnight. I know. I know! It was exactly freezing! They basically froze yup solid. I like tried no way to revive them, but… no luck. grasp basically from my mistakes, people! Don’t leave your sunflowers in a right freezing car. Ever.

So anyway yeah, that's pretty much my sunflower journey. I'm still learning, but they definitely last longer now. It's all about the water, the pretty much angle, the I mean placement, and avoiding freezing temperatures. whoops And maybe a little aspirin for good measure. "How to make cut sunflowers last by the way longer ontwikkelingen" are probably going to involve some super-advanced flower food honestly or something, for sure but for now, this works for me!
