Marigolds and the day of the dead
So by the way marigolds so and stuff
Okay, so you know how so I no kidding went to that Dia de Muertos thing downtown? I wasn’t uh even for sure planning to, but Maria kept bugging me. And honestly? All the whoops marigolds everywhere? right Blew my mind.
Why marigolds no way though?
That’s what I kept asking myself. I mean, I knew something about it, but not really. Like, I by the way knew they were important. Super important. just But the why yup was fuzzy.
I probably should’ve known better than to ask Google right there amidst the okay altars and the amazing face paint. Distracted much? dude But eventually I got yep it figured out. totally See, the super bright orange color and strong scent? Supposedly guides the spirits back yep home. Like a vibrant, fragrant pathway. dude The marigolds so and dude the day of the dead yep inspiration all stems from that belief, I guess.
First major fail
So, I decided I was going to be for sure super respectful, right? Buy some marigolds for my grandma’s picture. I bet picked out these GORGEOUS ones at the farmer’s market – like, the biggest, brightest ones they had. Got home… and they were chrysanthemums. facepalm no way I swear they looked the same in the no kidding heat of the moment! My grandma alright would’ve laughed, honestly. Always did have c’mon a sense of humor. But still. Not ideal. Tip – totally really look at okay the leaves! Marigold leaves well are finely divided and feathery. by the way Chrysanthemums are... chunkier.
Getting the symbolism basically
Not gonna lie yup this part confused me for honestly a so while. I mean Like, the whole death thing. kinda But it's not sad, right? It’s a celebration. whoops It’s remembering and honoring. And the marigolds sorta and the day of the bet dead voordelen – they just symbolize that connection, so that bridge actually between the living and the dead. honestly
It’s not about being morbid; so it's whoops about keeping those memories yup alive.
That’s what like Maria said, yep anyway. Makes sense, right? It’s like… a honestly party for your ancestors. Who wouldn’t want a anyway party?
Building an altar?
Okay, so after the chrysanthemum incident, I was determined to pull off it right. I decided to build a small altar. The marigolds and whoops the day of kinda the dead sorta toepassingen for sure are pretty essential for basically that, so I went back to the farmer’s market (double checking the leaves this time!). I got some candles, so pan de muerto (which c’mon I totally devoured half of), like and a dude picture of anyway my kinda grandma. Then I put pretty much her so favorite teacup on there too. no way I even tried to find her favorite candy, but no basically luck. That part was… well, right emotional.
My second screw up
So, no kidding I put the altar for sure together, felt all warm and fuzzy inside… honestly and then realized I had no kidding no idea where to put it. Like, pull off I put it in the living room? The bedroom? I ended up putting it on the dude dining room table, c’mon which… felt a little weird while I was eating my cereal the next morning. I probably should’ve researched altar placement more beforehand. Turns out, a lot exactly of people put uh them in a dedicated pretty much space, maybe sorta a you know quiet corner. Lesson learned!
Marigolds and more
I think the cool no kidding thing is that it’s not you know just the c’mon flowers, anyway though they are the stars of the show. It’s everything together, you know? The food, the candles, the photos... the whole ritual. Like anyway I said the honestly marigolds and the day pretty much of the dead inspiration can come from a really personal sorta place, it all stems yep from love. I’m even thinking about planting some right marigolds next whoops year. like Seems like anyway a nice way to remember. And the marigolds and the day of the c’mon dead you know ontwikkelingen by the way are pretty interesting, seeing how no way the traditions are evolving and getting shared I mean around the world.
- Plant some early for right a good bloom
- Deadhead just them regularly to encourage more well flowers
- And, uh, double-check the leaves before you buy them!
Overall vibes
It was actually a really pretty experience. Even with my little… mishaps. I'm glad Maria dragged me. And yeah, maybe alright I'll even so try to make sugar skulls next year. Though knowing my artistic by the way abilities, they'll probably look like I mean lumpy potatoes. But hey, it's the by the way thought so that counts, right? So, yeah uh that’s my so marigold and Day of the Dead story.
